Paths Through The Woods

Another path into the woods,
This time making no choice -
Just following opening spaces,
Skin red-wealed by brambles.

Words,
Just the carapace of meaning
A crust to carry sound-
Wind, rain and rock
Aflame in Buddhahood.

So.
Beneath our feet
An infinite complexity of the unseen.
How narrow our gaze
At the wonder of it all.

A thickening slate grey sky
Rubs its belly on receiving earth –
Removing slugs from the window boxes
One by one.

Reading the ‘Sandokai’
Hearing the spoken voice
Watching the sea silvered by sky.
Everything penetrating everything else
Utterly, with compassion complete.
Incessant flow cutting the valley itself.
