Flattened Light

No one to disturb
The reclining Buddha,
Shadows from the prayer flags
Rippling across the courtyard.

Heat of summer
The sirens seem less -
Flat light at midday.

A few petunia flowers
stare open mouthed into the room
surprised by its very existence perhaps,
the half open window.

Being aware of the bond
created by sharing exploration
held by kinship forged of the urge
to know.

Washing the child
this time without tantrum tears -
probably a blackbird.

Awake at dawn
as I piss
the scent of stephanotis lingering
even half awake.
